The monument was erected in the place where Magnus Hirschfeld, scholar and scientist, founded the ever first Institut for Sexual Studies during the Weimar Republic. Already in 1897 he was actively advocating the abolishment of the infamous Paragraph 175 that criminalized sexual intercourse between adults of the same sex. Together with 8 other artists from China, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Spain and Nepal and under the coordination of Wolfgang Knapp I work on the concept for this monument that was finally built and inaugurated in Fall 2017 in Berlin. The monument was commissioned by LSVD- Berlin´s Gay and Lesbian Alliance. All rights to the materials presented here is held by LSVD and no reproduction of this content is allowed as of this writing.
